Introduction
Utah State University has decided to join in what BYU, UVU, and the Ohio State Buckeyes have done and that is to build a land speed racer. The Bonneville Salt Flats have long symbolized the ultimate in performance and speed with the worlds fastest cars making their runs there. Over the past 5+ years USU has been working on its biofuels program to create biodiesel from oleaginous (oil producing) microorganisms with its main emphasis being on algal biodiesel. We have recently finished our first dyno tests using a 2 cylinder diesel with 3 of these organisms as B100 meaning not mixed at all with traditional or other diesel. The publication will be submitted shortly. As we reached this milestone we wanted to find another more grand milestone. The most obvious choice is to create a vehicle that is driven using only our fuel. We also decided to play on the world stage. Bonneville called our name! We are currently building a diesel streamliner with a small v-twin diesel. We will be at the salt flats starting the. morning of Aug 9, 2012. Come check us out! More updates to come soon!!
