Algal diesel for Speed Week 2013!
We are right in the middle of growing all the algae we need for us to have enough biodiesel for 2 long course passes at the Bonneville Salt Flats for Speed Week 2013!! These are inoculum tubes of one of our favorite biodiesel precursor producing algal strains!

National Biodiesel Conference
2 graduate students: Alex McCurdy and Robert Willis, and undergraduate Mike Morgan just received word that they have been selected for scholarships to attend the National Biodiesel Conference in February in Las Vegas, Nevada! They have each had their posters accepted and will be presenting them at the Conference as their posters were accepted as well.
Alex McCurdy will present his poster talking about our growth and processing methods and the dyno and emissions data for each of our fuels. The poster gives an overview of our recent publication!
Robert Willis will present his poster talking about his method for extraction of lipid.
Mike Morgan will present his poster talking about the USU Aggie A-Salt Streamliner!
Congrats to the team!

Student Teams Design Presentations
Yesterday next semester's Mechanical Engineering build teams presented their designs to the group and the professors as part of preparing to build here shortly. Both teams did well. The body team has a big task ahead of them and it will be awesome to see what they can do! The drivetrain team was given the go ahead to get the transmission ordered so they can get the car put together ASAP during next semester so that extensive dyno testing/tuning can be done!
The teams are: Blue Aero which is our body team and Team S.P.E.E.D. which is our drivetrain team.
Both teams did well and it will be great to see what they accomplish here as we get ready for Speed Week 2013 at the Bonneville Salt Flats!

Missed Opportunity
We realized we never posted some of the coolest pictures that came out of the World of Speed event! At the event there were three other schools in their respective classes. Furthest to the left is of course our car with myself (Michael R. Morgan), my Dad (Michael D. Morgan), and Jon Snyder as representatives for USU. The second car from the left is the Brigham Young University (BYU) team with their electric streamliner that is the current land speed record holder in its class. Following that is one of the Fox Valley Technical College cars out of Wisconsin and they also have the other car that is the furthest to the right in the photo. Second to last in the photo is the el Camino running a turbocharged big block chevy out of Utah Valley University (UVU). The were running in the 180's for much of the event. It was pretty awesome to see the other schools there and hopefully we will see more. Sadly this was the last event for the BYU car as there is no longer a faculty member who is willing to take over the project now that the professor previously in charge has retired. Best of luck to you guys and hopefully someone will pick it up in the future!
Someone from the BYU group also talked about the event here: http://dailyderbi.com/world-of-speed-at-the-bonneville-salt-flats/

Time to post some more pictures!
Above is an awesome photo compliments of "Burly" Burlile! Taken during the World of Speed 2012
These 4 awesome shots were also taken at the World of Speed 2012 event by professional photographer Terry D. Call
Some other great shots taken by Karamatullah Danyal, a graduate student in Dr. Lance Seefeldt's lab, during our media event at the Logan airport between the World of Speed and World Finals events.
These are some cool shots that came from the World Finals event and are taken by various members of the Morgan family.
We will have plenty more photos of the car as we get more time. Hope you guys are excited for next year as we prepare for our A-Salt on the salt at the 2013 Speed Week event!
